The Medway Drug Enforcement Agency was founded in 1974 and is one of the oldest drug task forces in the State of Ohio. Medway is the only agency in Wayne County tasked specifically with investigating drug trafficking organizations, street level dealers, and crimes with a nexus to drugs that effect quality of life in our communities. Covering an area of over 555 square miles, and a population of over 116,000 residents, Wayne County is a mixture of rural and urban localities. Medway is a stand-alone Agency with commissions held through the Wayne County Sheriff Office, meaning our Agents are all direct employees of Medway DEA, unlike traditional drug task forces. Medway primary source of funding is through a county wide tax levy, but receives additional funding through awards of federal and state grants.
Medway also focuses on prevention and education with our partnerships with community organizations such as OneEighty, Turning Point Coalition, Circle Coalition, Rittman S.A.L.T. Coalition, and the Wayne County Pregnancy Care Center. We work closely with the Wayne County Children Services Bureau through our Drug Endangered Children's Alliance. We believe education is one of the fundamental pieces of preventing drug abuse in our communities and among our children. We work closely with our Federal partners of the F.B.I., D.E.A, A.T.F. and the AUSA of Northern Ohio District to expand our reach and shut down the sources of supply bringing narcotics into our county.
